Governance and Prudent Fiscal Management

Broken Sound Club’s Board of Governors consists of eleven volunteer members who focus their leadership efforts on the four cornerstones of Club Governance:strategy, finance, governance, and leadership.

  • To stay ahead of market trends, yearly Board Retreats challenge the Board to examine current forecasts in the housing and market sector, labor supply and demand, member service needs, the lifestyle demands (longer seasons), and the implementation of more diversity.

  • Strategic Planning is at the forefront of our leadership’s agenda. Board members, as well as key members of the Management Team, are currently collaborating with an industry professional to re-establish the Club’s vision, mission, values, and planning decisions on the allocation of resources and goal-setting that will better serve the membership.

  • A key strategic motivator identified this past year was the shift in membership dynamics. More families found their way to South Florida, joining Broken Sound with a golf membership that quickly led to the Club reaching golf capacity. The Board met this demand for golf memberships by creating specialized golf wait lists for new home buyers that provide certain access to golf, offering unique downgrade programs for current members, and raising the cap at one of the golf courses.

  • Healthy reserves continue to demonstrate fiscal responsibility and met fiduciary duties from both the Board and Management.

  • Refurbished solar panels were installed to operate the irrigation lake's underwater fans that work to lower the amount of salt bicarbonate levels applied to the grounds. This process improves the efficiency of the soil and extends the life of the golf course.

  • Each sprinkler head has a 64-megabyte chip installed that reads real time water levels. The agronomy team can monitor the entire course directly from their phones. This advanced system provides the Club savings in water costs.
